An erotic thriller, Body Double is also a homage, even a pastiche or parody, of many Alfred Hitchcock films, in particular Cold Sweat, Rear Window and The crime was almost perfect. Misunderstood and unloved upon its release, the film has since gained cult status and is considered one of its author's best..

Synopsis

While he plays a vampire, Jake Scully cannot get out of his coffin: this “Z series” actor is claustrophobic. His director summons him to go home and rest. He returns home to find his fiancée in bed with a man. Forced to leave his fiancée's home, he accepts the offer of Sam, an actor with whom he became acquainted during an audition: to keep the beautiful circular house on the heights of Los Angeles (the Chemosphere) that he keeps himself for a wealthy friend traveling in Europe. Sam reveals to him his favorite activity: observing with a telescope his neighbor below, who every evening puts on stage in his apartment. The next evening, Jake spies on the young woman and discovers that he is not the only one watching the show.Filming took place from February 8, 1984 to April 18, 1984 in Beverly Hills, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Palos Verdes Peninsula and West Hollywood. The house from which Jake observes Gloria's apartment is the Chemosphere, an architect's house that actually exists. The clip for the song Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood during which Jake meets Holly was to be the real clip for this song9. It was Brian De Palma, who is also the producer of the film, who had this idea for a clip related to pornography. The clip was to be used on the music channel MTV and thus be used to promote the film. The Frankie Goes to Hollywood group, initially convinced, ultimately did not like the clip and chose to have another one made. The clip was shot months after the rest of the film, so as to be integrated into the already edited film.
